Student Organization Constitution

ARTICLE I Name
The name of this organization shall be: The College of Human Services and Health Professions Sport Management Club
The organization is a student organization at Syracuse University.
ARTICLE II Objectives
The objectives of the organization shall be:
1. To create an experiential learning opportunity for SU students interested in the sports industry
2. To create a philanthropic and social responsibility associated with sport
3. To create career networking and educational field trip opportunities for members of the organization
4. To establish community service opportunities that fit within mission of SU
5. To promote interest in the sports industry
ARTICLE III Membership
1. Any student in the sport management major in the College of Human Services and Health Professions at Syracuse University is eligible to be an active member and may hold office.
2. All other remaining SU students must apply through an application process to be established by the officers to join the club. Once enrolled into the club, they may also hold office through an election.
ARTICLE IV Officers
1. Election of Officers
· The officers of this organization are president, vice president of programming, vice president of sponsorship, vice president of membership, secretary, treasurer, and a sergeant-at-arms
· Officers will be elected by written ballot, with each active member casting a vote. A majority of votes will result in a candidate assuming office.
· Election of officers will take place at the end of the spring semester
· Officers will assume office for a period of one year.
ARTICLE V Voting
1. This constitution and by-laws may be amended by a majority vote of the membership.
ARTICLE VI Not-for-Profit Statement
This is not-for-profit organization.
ARTICLE VII Statement of Non-discrimination
Students have the right not to be discriminated against by any agent or organization, including recognized student organizations, of Syracuse University for reasons of age, creed, ethnic or national origin, gender, disability, marital status, political or social affiliation, race, religion, or sexual orientation. This policy will include, but not be limited to, recruiting, membership, organization activities, or opportunities to hold office.
ARTICLE VIII Financial Obligation
- A majority of voting members of this organization may determine reasonable dues and fees assessed to each member upon enrollment into the club.
- A specific member or members, designated by this organization shall be responsible for payment in full of all debts accumulated by the organization not covered by funds on deposit.
ARTICLE IX Statement of Non-Hazing
This organization will not conspire to engage in hazing, as defined by New York Penal Law 120.16 and New York Penal Law 120.17, or commit any act that causes or is likely to cause bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any fellow student or person attending the institution.
ARTICLE X Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations
This organization shall comply with the Syracuse University Code of Student Conduct.
ARTICLE XI Community Service Obligation
All members of the club are required to fulfill a minimum of 15 hours of community service per academic year. Procedures for the method and tracking of community service hours will be established by the officers of this organization.
